Iluka
Iluka, which translates to “by the sea” is situated at the mouth of the Clarence River. It is directly opposite Yamba & only 17 kilometres from the Pacific Highway. A two hour drive from Tweed Heads/Coolangatta will find you here.
Iluka is surrounded by the mighty Clarence River on one side & national park on the other. It is a tranquil, relaxing village & the climate is rated the best in Australia. Average temperatures in summer are 26 degrees celsius during the day & a pleasant 20 at night – winter is a very mild 19 & 10 degrees respectively.
The fishing industry still largely sustains Iluka & the fleet can be seen heading out to sea at dusk. The early riser can experience the hustle & bustle of the trawlers returning just after dawn & share in the “catch of the day”.
Whales can be seen from the Iluka Bluff as they migrate & you can watch the dolphins frolicking along the breakwall & and in Iluka Bay.
Stroll along Iluka Beach, officially declared “the cleanest beach in NSW in 2003”. There is 4WD access to 16 kms of uninterrupted sand at Shark Bay.
